It’s been way too long since I’ve written in this blog; close to a year in fact! I think part of the reason I’ve been absent is that I have a new job in which I stare at a computer all day so I don’t want to do that on my own time. And I think part of it is that now that I’m not travelling I think other people will view my life as boring. Now let’s be clear, I don’t think my life is boring, but writing about seeing Jumanji this week (which was hilarious, by the way) sounds decidedly less exciting than meeting kangaroos in Australia or trekking through caves in New Zealand or walking the streets of Budapest. But ultimately I think I’ve been lazy. Plain and simple. Let’s get this blog show back on the road, shall we? So first things first, I have a new job! Or, at least is was new 8 months ago. So, at the end of May, I started my new role as a Data Analyst for Centriam, LLC! Centriam is a startup out of Minneapolis and is a “data intelligence company”, which basically means that we use a combination of data science, technology and customer intelligence to help consumer-driven companies develop insight on their customers so that they can act on them to improve their companies moving forward. It’s a lot to explain, and to be honest I still don’t 100% know everything about the job, but it’s been amazing so far. I’m learning SO MUCH and am a lot more confident with applying the skills I developed in school to the real world. I really like the people I’m working with too, which helps a lot. Before I started the job, I got to visit my friend Emma in DC, Rachel (who I played soccer with for years growing up) in Boston and family in Chicago. None of those trips were long enough, but it was so good to get away and feed my travel bug a little bit! As an added bonus, I got to play soccer with Rachel while I was in Boston and life really felt like it had come full circle at that point. Speaking of a travel bug, Erin and I got to go on a sister’s trip to Greece in July, which was AMAZING! I highly recommend Greece to anyone. We started with 12 hours in Athens and then took an overnight ferry to Santorini, where we stayed for three days. Then we took another ferry to Ios for another 2 days of island fun before heading back to Athens for another 24 hours. I could talk about Greece for ages, so I’ll have to do that one in it’s own post. But the long story short, it was awesome. And it was awesome to spend so much one on one time with Erin. That wasn’t all the traveling I did though! I was able to go home for Thanksgiving for the first time since freshman year of college and it was so nice to catch up with friends and family that I hadn’t seen for a while. And then, my family came up to the tundra for Christmas and I got to show them around the Twin Cities! Having the people I love in a place that I love was a pretty cool feeling. And they survived one of the coldest weeks we’d had all winter, so I was pretty proud of them for that! So that’s kind of the update! Still playing soccer, still coaching water polo, still gradually improving at broomball. I also competed as part of a team in the Ragnar, a 200+ mile relay race where we ran continuously for 34 hours. It was fun at times, it was not so fun at times, but ultimately I felt really accomplished at completion. I turned 25 in 2017 which, according to my aunt, means my brain is now fully developed! Yay! But also means that I’m literally one step away from my free flight benefits running out (which happens when I turn 26) so I need to get on my traveling game! It also means I've reached a time in my life where weddings are more common, and I've been to quite a few in the last 4 months, all of which have been a great time! Stay tuned for a post about Greece, and other daily life adventures in the near future!
